Who we are

OLPC PNG is a team of PNG educationists, IT Specialists, interested groups and individuals working together in collaboration and partnership with the Education Department to provide the best education possible for PNG's children as we fulfill the OLPC mission in Papua New Guinea. We are committed to the vision and mission of the OLPC project and support the OLPC 5 core principles. We form the core training and distribution hubs for the project in Papua New Guinea and provide support for schools, communities and most importantly, the children. We strive to promote activities that create educational opportunities for PNG’s children.

Our dedicated team provides training workshops for teachers at the primary school level and other interested OLPC parties. We form clusters of OLPC working committees wherever we go and empower them with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the project in their own areas.

Our distribution hub is situated at the Divine Word University main campus in Madang where most of our technical support is located. Central to our commitment to create educational opportunities for all PNG's children, we have our main training arm at the University’s Education Faculty, the St Benedict’s campus, in Wewak, where all second year students are given the opportunity to enroll in an olpc certificate program.

Our strategy

Our success depends on the commitment of the team in realizing our vision. We work in collaboration with the National Department of Education, the PNG Government, Non-Government Organizations, other sponsors, supporters and interested parties. The communities involved form an important group in the execution of the project and we will ensure that they get all the support they need. Most importantly our success will be seen in the outcomes this project brings to the education of our country’s most valuable resource - the children of this country.

Our history

OLPC PNG is fairly young, only a few months old. It is formed by a team of volunteers from different backgrounds under the auspices of the Education Department and other education providers, who share the vision of seeing the children of Papua New Guinea educated at the best possible means that is comparable to the rest of the world. We are supported by the Prime Minister and the government of Papua New Guinea.
