Page 1 of 2 The teacher training at St Peter Chanel Primary School in Erima, Port Moresby began on Monday 20th April 2009 with a visit from the Secretary for Education, Dr Joseph Pagelio. Dr Pagelio made an introductory speech to the participating teachers emphasizing the importance of the OLPC project and how the project can help in the delivery of the outcome-based curriculum. The outcome-based curriculum has been introduced and implemented in the country for sometime. After Dr Pagelio’s remarks, Dr Alfred Tivinarlik began the training with an introduction of the whole concept of the OLPC project stressing the core principles of OLPC. The teacher training went on for four days with the first ever XS server connectivity to the internet. The connection was established on Thursday 23rd of April 2009 with the official launching of a partnership for OLPC Papua New Guinea between the National Department of Education, Telikom PNG Ltd (a local carrier) and Divine Word University. The training program consisted of an intensive training on the XO computer and the integration of curriculum content. This was followed by a practicum component where participants were assessed on their competency in using the computers and integrating it to curriculum.
