Welcome to the OLPC PNG
PDF Print E-mail

This is an education project, which is aimed at providing educational opportunities for Papua New Guinea’s children. The project provides them with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. The laptop gives PNG learners opportunities they have not had before and helps them build upon their active interest in the world around them to engage with powerful ideas. The laptop takes the PNG learners beyond instruction. They are actively engaged in a process of learning through doing and also learn by teaching, actively assisting other learners. The laptop not only delivers the world to the PNG children, but also brings their best practices and their teachers to the world.

OLPC Seminar PDF Print E-mail

An OLPC Seminar was held at Divine Word University on Saturday September 5th.
The event was held following requests from students and staff of the University who wanted to know more about OLPC in Papua New Guinea.

The OLPC Regional Director for Oceania, Mr. Michael Hutak, was contacted and spoke via skype during the seminar from his Sydney home to the audience.
He answered a few questions regarding OLPC in Papua New Guinea and Oceania.
Michael will be meeting the Solomon Island’s Prime Minister next week to discuss OLPC in that country.
During the seminar, an overview of OLPC in Papua New Guinea was presented, which generated interesting discussions on some important questions about OLPC in PNG.
For example, questions were raised about sustainability of the program in rural and remote areas, power-source, and connectivity, to name a few.
We can make a difference for our nation’s children with what we have if we believe in ourselves and have the courage to move with our vision.
